Writing From the Inside

I began writing because I needed to understand what was happening inside me. Writing slowed my thinking down and gave me language for experiences I could feel long before I could explain them.

What began in journals eventually became my memoir, The War After. These essays continue that work.

They are not clinical instruction or a universal account of recovery. They are one person's attempt to describe what can be difficult to see from the outside.
